Wicked Dolphin wins Best Craft Rum Distillery award
Sugarcane plantations in the Caribbean began distilling rum during the 17th century from molasses, an inexpensive byproduct of the sugar refining process. The spirit came to the U.S. in 1664 with the opening of the first rum distillery on Staten Island and continued to grow in popularity through the Revolutionary War. Rum has come a long way since those early days, and distilleries across the nation are experimenting with how to craft the finest variations.

It’s no secret a transformation has been underway at Newport Craft.
This spring, after a four-and-a-half-year multiphase project, the renovated brewery and distillery — “brewstillery” — in the city’s North End will publicly re-open its doors to the thirsty, the curious, and the celebratory. Visitors will find an expanded footprint both inside and out, one that is more innovative and efficient as well as able to host gatherings and events.
